3/24/2023 – A hero of Ukraine will not give up

From Euromaiden Press: The hero in these photos is Vlad. He is a sapper who volunteered to defend Ukraine in the first weeks after the full-scale invasion.

And he lost his eyes defending our country.

Getting to know Vlad is one of those experiences that can change your life. Because knowing his story, you are ready for anything, but when you meet a smiling, optimistic guy who has a specific goal, to get his sight back, and after a few minutes of communication, you have no doubt that this man will achieve his goal, no matter how unrealistic it may be.

Moreover, he is not alone. His fiancée Valeria is with him, a girl who has been supporting the hero from the very first days, despite all the difficulties.

On August 9, she found out that Vlad was hit by an explosion while clearing an anti-personnel mine. Then there were long hours of searching for him, which hospital he was in, and his condition. According to Vlad’s commander, who witnessed the tragedy, it was a great miracle that the guy survived.

The next day, doctors reported that Vlad had to have his eyes removed. It sounds like a sentence for any ordinary person, but not for Vlad and his girlfriend. They decided not to give up.

Today are learning about all possible experimental ways to restore eyesight. This is literally the future, like in a computer game: cameras will be connected to the brain through electronics, which transmit information to the brain. This is something completely different, it’s impossible to describe it in words, but Vlad and I assumed that the picture could be pixelated, like in the first Doom. Anyway, this is just the beginning, which will allow the guy to at least orient himself in space.

The war showed us and the whole world the unbreakable character of Ukrainians. And Vlad’s story is just like that.
