4/29/2023 – The Russian Ministry of Defense tweeted, “Right on target.”

Today’s picture – an illustration by @lesiapil and @paperplanes_ua in honor of the Uman tragedy.

From Ira Kapitonova (Day 429):

Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth,
yet they have not prevailed against me.
Psalm 129:2

Sometimes, it takes me a while to decide what to write my daily post about. On days like today, I know exactly what I need to write about, yet I keep stalling because it’s something I don’t want to write. As if not writing about it would somehow change the reality.

This morning, Russia attacked Ukraine with 23 missiles and kamikaze drones. While our air defense shot down 21 missiles, the damage is still too painful.

A missile hit a private household in Dnipro, killing a young mother and her 2-year-old daughter. They had moved from their apartment to stay with the grandparents in a private house, hoping it would be safer for the child.

A missile destroyed a whole block of an apartment building in Uman (Cherkasy region). It’s about 100 km away from my grandma’s village. We would pass the city on our way to grandma’s when I was a kid—a quiet town with a beautiful botanical garden. The missile killed 23 people, including 4 children (as of 7 pm on Friday).
I have no words. It feels like the Russians noted how devastating the missile strike on an apartment building in Dnipro was, so they wanted to repeat their “success.” The Russian Ministry of Defense tweeted, “Right on target.” By the way, Russia is currently the chair of the UN Security Council.

The longer this war continues, and the more personal stories we learn, the more it feels like hell has literally broken loose. Lord, have mercy!

The Lord is righteous;
he has cut the cords of the wicked.
May all who hate Zion
be put to shame and turned backward!
Let them be like the grass on the housetops,
which withers before it grows up,
with which the reaper does not fill his hand
nor the binder of sheaves his arms,
nor do those who pass by say,
“The blessing of the Lord be upon you!
We bless you in the name of the Lord!”
Psalm 129:4-8
