From Euromaiden Press: The recent destruction of the Kakhov reservoir has resulted in a significant drop in water levels in Zaporizhzhia, averaging a staggering 2 meters, Radio Svoboda reported.
The repercussions are evident, particularly in what is known as the “bottom beef.” The sudden influx of water directly into the Kakhov reservoir has caused the adjacent bays to be completely drained. The once thriving ecosystem has now turned into a grim sight of decaying algae and lifeless mussels, emitting a pungent odor under the scorching sun. To add to the distress, boats and ships that were once moored near the piers now rest stranded on dry sand.
In certain areas, it is now possible to reach parts of the Dnipro River that were once submerged beneath the reservoir, exposing what was once the heart of the river before the dam’s devastating destruction.
This serves as a solemn reminder of the environmental and human impact caused by such actions. Urgent measures and collective efforts are necessary to address this ecological crisis and mitigate its lasting consequences.
