From Euromaiden Press: Good morning World! Good morning Ukraine!
Activists from the Ukraine Solidarity Project presented a billboard at the Unilever headquarters with a clear message: “Dove… helping to fund Russia’s war in Ukraine.”
Unilever, a global leader in food and cosmetics manufacturing, continues its operations in Russia. The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) has included Unilever in the list of “international sponsors of war”. According to the NAPC, Unilever contributed approximately $300 million in taxes to the Russian budget last year. The list also features Procter & Gamble, the world’s largest producer of household chemicals and hygiene products, as well as the French DIY supermarket Leroy Merlin.
Unilever acknowledges that finding a solution for companies with a substantial physical presence in Russia is not easy. If it were to withdraw its business from Russia, the state would likely appropriate its assets. Additionally, selling these assets without potentially benefiting the Russian authorities poses a challenge. Consequently, Unilever has chosen to continue operating with “severe restrictions.”
Unilever, a British-Dutch multinational corporation, owns numerous renowned brands, including Lipton, Dove, Rexona, and Domestos. In Russia, it offers a range of products such as soaps, shampoos, and other hygiene and household chemicals.
