From Euromaiden Press: Soldier Daria Filipieva, call sign “Blyskavka” (Lightning), was killed on the front lines. Before the outbreak of war, she had worked as a translator. To be eligible for military service, she underwent surgery to correct her poor eyesight.

Her journey into the army commenced in 2019, fueled by a profound sense of duty towards her country. Daria successfully completed a rigorous training course for combat medical personnel, which earned her the call sign “Lightning” due to her remarkably quick reactions.

At the onset of the full-scale invasion, Daria joined the Kyiv Territorial Defense, assuming the role of an instructor for combat medicine. It was important for her to be seen on the battlefield not only as a woman but also as “a citizen of this country.”

“I couldn’t remain passive at home because my identity is that of a soldier, a sergeant, and a combat medic. It’s my responsibility to defend my country,” she stated.

Initially, she hoped to become a machine gunner or a sniper, yet she excelled as a combat medic. Throughout her service, she saved the lives of numerous Ukrainian soldiers. With her vibrant and optimistic attitude, Daria was an integral part of the International Legion, where she helped foreign legionnaires serving alongside the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In recognition of her contributions to Ukraine, she was honored with the Steel Cross badge.

“Soar high in the heavens, little bird Ariana von Stahl. You were unique, notably your profound love for the realm of fantasy,” wrote activist and volunteer Oksana Korchynska.
