9/13/2023 – Underground Schools

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 566):

For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling;
I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
Psalm 116:8‭-‬9

Underground schools in Ukraine are not something you try to hide from the government authorities but something you must do to protect the children from Russian missiles. Kharkiv is one of the cities shelled almost every day, so an underground school is the only alternative to studying online. The classrooms are set up on subway stations, and even though they are soundproofed and have good ventilation, it’s not really a happy place you want to send children to.

I often wonder how this new generation of Ukrainians will turn out. They know really well what they have to go through and why, so you wouldn’t be able to confuse them. But will this experience break them? Will it harden their hearts? I am praying for God’s mercy.

Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
The Lord preserves the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return, O my soul, to your rest;
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
Psalm 116:5‭-‬7

  1. Frederick of Prussia fought a losing battle. He fought as enemies continued to win city after city. He fought when it was clear he was surrounded. He fought until Russia’s czar died and the new ruler immediately pulled all his troops out of Prussia. The other nations immediately lost interest and departed, leaving Frederick THE GREAT victorious and a hero of his men.
