From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 583):
The memory of the righteous is a blessing,
but the name of the wicked will rot.
Proverbs 10:7
Today, we remember the Babyn Yar tragedy. 82 years ago, the Nazis killed nearly 34,000 Jews in Babyn Yar, Kyiv over the course of a couple of days. Over the next two years, while Kyiv remained under Nazi occupation, more than 120,000 people, including Ukrainians, Jews, Roma, and others, lost their lives there. It is a Holocaust memorial site now.
The Holocaust is a horrible thing that should never repeat itself. It is a vivid example of what happens due to propaganda and constant dehumanizing.
Let us learn from the mistakes of the past. “Never again!”
