10/5/2023 – Trust in the LORD with all your heartand lean not on your own understanding…

From Maia Mikhaluk in Kyiv (588th day):

We recently watched Outlander series, where the story’s plot is centered around the idea of time travel. The main character, who traveled a couple of centuries into the past, was armed with knowledge about upcoming wars and their outcomes. With our war continuing to drag on not just for 588 days but really for more than 9 years now since the time ruzzia first started the occupation of our territory, we often wonder, “How much longer, God?” While watching Outlander, I kept thinking, wouldn’t it be nice to know when God will give us Victory?

It may not be so helpful after all. In the first, the scariest days of the war, we believed that we just needed to survive a few more days, maybe a few more weeks, and the war would end. By the time we realized that the war might continue for months, maybe years, we were much more prepared to accept that idea. Knowing what was ahead would have been overwhelming and paralyzing.

Of course, we still wish we could know the date of our future Victory, but meanwhile, we trust God to sustain us through whatever is ahead for as long as it takes.

These verses from book of Proverbs have been my favorite for 31 years but the last 588 days gave me a chance to lean on that trust like never before:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5,6)
