From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 610):
In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him;
all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
Psalm 10:4
Russia conducted military training, practicing a massive nuclear strike using air, land, and submarine missile launchers.
I often think that only the cruel, godless, and utterly wicked are capable of this war. They must be confident that there is no God, so they will get no justice for all the pain and tears they’ve caused.
One of the hardest parts of my day is listening to the children’s prayers — “Thank you, God, that we can be at school even amid war;” “Thank you, God, that there is no air raid and we don’t need to go to the basement;” “God, bring this horrible war to an end!” If you don’t see their faces, you might think these words are coming from adults — they are not just repeating something they’ve heard from someone else. They feel and mean every word, being mature beyond the years.
O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart;
you will incline your ear
to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
Psalm 10:17-18
