Miss Universe Ukraine unveils costume for the upcoming Miss Universe 2023 final contest, scheduled to take place on 18 November in El Salvador. Anhelina Usanova, the representative of Ukraine this year, proudly showcased her costume, named “Berehynia Maty” (Mother Protectress) – a tribute to Ukrainian mothers and children.
The costume was crafted over a month and a half, with a profound symbolism in its various colours. The blue hue represents the sky, untouched by the noise of rockets, while the white and milky tones embody the essence of peace.
The blue and yellow shades pay homage to the Ukrainian flag, evoking a strong sense of national pride. Additionally, the costume features elements of gold, symbolizing the valour and strength of every Ukrainian mother. 35 meters of chiffon and organza fabrics were employed, with a cloud and blue sky design printed on the material. Approximately 45,000 decorative stones were applied to embellish the costume, with some elements even produced using 3D printing technology.
The team behind this ensemble stated, “With this costume, we aim to remind the international community of the ongoing war in Ukraine and underscore the importance of respecting international law and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.”
Anhelina will be holding a miniature angel figurine, symbolizing the great value of every child’s life. To further draw the international community’s attention to the war in Ukraine, Miss Universe Ukraine 2023 has also written a song titled “Peace”.
Anhelina is not only a talented singer, songwriter, and musician who creates and performs songs centred on themes of peace, ecology, and love but also holds the title of yoga master. An active volunteer, she has raised substantial funds to aid refugee families from Mariupol and Kakhovka, as well as for ambulances. She has performed live concerts across Europe, raising funds to support Ukraine and its Armed Forces.
