From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 653):
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.
Psalm 53:1
Our morning started with an air raid. We were just getting out of bed when we got a warning that cruise missiles were coming at Kyiv. We had breakfast in a hallway, doing our best to be safe. Thankfully, the air raid lasted less than two hours, and our air defense forces shot down all the missiles aimed at Kyiv.
Then, it took us an hour and a half (instead of 20 minutes) to get to school. All public transportation stops during air raids, some bridges are closed for traffic, and the streets are overflowing with people trying to make up for the lost time. A few students missed school today because their parents couldn’t bring them to school.
At the same time, today, I realized I shouldn’t really be grumbling about it. Today, I talked with someone whose child studies in a public school in our neighborhood. The students there come to school in person every other week and study online the rest of the time. That’s because their bomb shelter is not big enough. During the air raid, they all go to the basement and just sit or stand there until the sirens clear, so many parents pick up their kids and just bring them home. Can you imagine a study process there? This helped me appreciate our school even more and helped me be more grateful for our small basement that still allows us to continue lessons even during an air raid.
