12/27/2023 – In you, O Lord, do I take refuge…

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 671):

‭‭In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame!
Psalm‬ ‭71:1‬ ‭

We went to grandma’s for the holidays. It’s nice to be back in this quiet village. You don’t need to worry about sirens or explosions in the middle of the night. It’s the perfect illusion of peace and ordinary.

But then you open the news, and the illusion shatters. The Russians attacked a train station in Kherson just as an evacuation train was about to leave. Thankfully, most passengers had been taken to safety, but two people were killed. The aerial attack on Kherson lasted over 6 hours, and it’s just one of the many daily attacks. As I’m writing this, kamikaze drones are attacking the Kherson, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions.

It’s good to see some good news as well. Ukraine’s Air Force destroyed a large amphibious assault ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. They say it was loaded with missiles, drones, and other munitions for the Russian army. According to the UK Secretary of Defense, Ukraine has destroyed 20% of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in four months.
Over the past week, our air defense took down five Russian fighter jets and bombers. Destruction of each of these means fewer weapons for Russians to attack with and hundreds of lives spared.

Please, keep praying for Ukraine’s complete victory over this evil. How we long for peace and justice to be restored!
