3/2/2024 – This reading challenge and the determination of our kids to help their country is what gives me hope…

March is finally here. It feels liberating to write “March” instead of “February”.

If you would like to help our kids help Ukraine, please send me a message, and I will help you sign up.

Our school has a tradition called ‘March is Reading Month.” That’s when we come up with different activities and encourage our kids to read as much as possible. For the past two years, this reading challenge has turned into a special fundraiser called ‘Read for Ukraine.’ It empowers our kids because they see how they can help their country in a real and tangible way. So, our kids read and record their minutes, and sponsors give $1 for every 10 minutes read. The goal of each student is to read 1,500 minutes during the month of March, or about 50 minutes/day.

All funds raised will go to help a team of volunteer paramedics who have been risking their lives for two years to save the lives of injured soldiers on the front lines. Last year, we partnered with them to help buy an SUV to rescue fallen soldiers and get them to the nearest hospital. This year, we want to help them buy some anti-drone equipment to protect them from being discovered and attacked while they are evacuating and treating fallen soldiers.

This reading challenge and the determination of our kids to help their country is what gives me hope.
