3/30/2024 -Watching those destroyed houses I kept thinking that those modest village homes had been probably built by generations

From: Maia Mikhaluk (765th day):

During the night 99 missiles and drones attacked regions all over Ukraine targeting specifically our energy infrastructure. These kind of news became almost daily lately.

When we were in Kherson region a few days ago we drove through several villages. Most of the villages that were under occupation or close to front lines have a lot of destruction. There are some stretches of the road where you drive for a while and see on both sides houses with gaping holes in the doors and roofs, empty windows, some are missing walls. Watching those destroyed houses I kept thinking that those modest village homes had been probably built by generations – over many years people were spending what they had to improve their houses so that their children and grandchildren would have a nicer place to live in. Then ruzzian tanks and artilery destroyed all that hard work with targeted shots in just minutes. We heard this from people in Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Chernigiv, Kyiv regions – similar stories of ruzzian tanks driving along the streets and shooting at one house after another – just for fun.

Watching those ruined homes I was also thinking what a horror it must have been for families that used to live there. During artillery/tanks shooting or during aviation bombings people often hid in their root cellars. Imagine being in a small damp cold cellar under the house that is being slammed by shells or bombs, wondering if you just got buried alive or if you would be able to come out to face the guns of the invaders. Imagine having children in those cellars, the devastating helplessness adults must have felt not being able to protect their kids and paralyzing fear the children must have experienced. Every house screams of pain it has witnessed and endured. War is a horrible thing.
