Today’s picture is one of the winning posters created by a student participant in the human rights awareness contest. The words at the top of the page read, “Every child has a right to education.”

From: Ira Kapitonova (Day 769):

‭Let the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

Our school is back from the spring break. I realized that I was anxiously making sure I had my phone with me at all times to ensure I didn’t miss the air raid warning, and we safely got the kids into the basement. Thankfully, there were no air raids for us today, but last week’s missile attacks still feel fresh.

Dnipro, however, wasn’t as lucky. Eighteen people, including 5 children, were injured as a result of Russia’s missile attack today. A kindergarten, a college, and an enterprise were severely damaged. Fortunately, children hid in a shelter during the attack, and it saved their lives.

Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union (UHHRU), the largest association of human rights organizations in Ukraine, held a human rights awareness contest for students. Children could share their wartime experiences through essays, posters, or video clips. One of the winners in the essay categories lives in the occupied territories and wrote, “Every minute, my friends who remained here and I have to live the terrible moments of “captivity”: you never know what will come to the mind of the “liberators” when they visit you with an inspection, and whether they will send you to a “health resort” somewhere far from your parents. It’s scary, but we’ve grown up so fast. We are now grown-up children.”
