From: Euromaiden Press – Jericho Skye Magallon, a veteran of the US Army, left California for Kyiv on 5 March 2022, where he joined the Ukrainian Foreign Legion and later transitioned to the Ukrainian Special Forces. Jericho firmly believed that the world was idly watching as Russia bullied and attacked the country, according to his mother, Alison Magallon.
Despite Alison’s understanding of her son’s motivations, rooted in his strong sense of justice, democracy, and desire to save lives, she could not dissuade him from his chosen path.
Jericho, who had served four years as a military police officer in the US Army, found the experiences in Ukraine incomparable to any previous combat he had witnessed. He assisted in the operation to liberate Izium in the Kharkiv Oblast, where Russian forces had tortured many people, and over 400 graves were found after their occupation.
After serving in Ukraine for 10 months, Jericho returned to California to visit his family but decided to return for two weeks to train military personnel. During this trip on 4 September 2023, Jericho died near Bakhmut at the age of 28.
“When you’re right where you’re supposed to be, doing what you’re meant to be doing, you will find peace,” he wrote.
Jericho’s mother, Alison, along with other mothers whose sons died in Ukraine, continues to visit the US Congress to plead for continued support for Ukraine. Despite her personal sacrifice, Alison continues her son’s cause, informing other Americans about the atrocities committed by Russian forces against Ukrainians and continuing the fight for Ukraine.
