5/13/2024 — “What does it mean to be a mother in Ukraine?”

From: Ira Kapitonova (Day 809)

‭My God in his steadfast love will meet me;
God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
Psalm 59:10

Happy Mother’s Day!

“What does it mean to be a mother in Ukraine?” This was the first line of a post written by a Ukrainian volunteer and deminer. Her post was too raw and honest, so I will not try to translate it (those who want can find it on her page – https://t.ly/lOwjL).

However, I would ask you to pray for Ukrainian mothers –
those who shield their children during air raids and shellings;
those who pray for their children on the frontlines;
those who sit in hospital rooms next to their children;
those who are separated by miles and borders;
those who lost their children because of the Russian weapons;
those whose children were born prematurely or those who lost a pregnancy because of the war stress;
those whose children will never be born because their husbands fell in a battle;
those who welcome stranger’s children into their homes and treat them as their own;
those who had to leave their children behind and take up arms to defend them;
those who weep for someone else’s children as their own;
those who spend sleepless nights rescuing someone’s wounded children;
those who lost everything;
those who keep hoping and believing no matter what.
