5/25/2024 — She did it for him. We will not give up…

Today’s picture – the Ukrainian mountain climber Tonia Samoilova with a picture of Oleksandr Hrianyk, a fallen hero who had dreamed of climbing Everest. Photo from Tonia Samoilova’s social media.

From: Ira Kapitonova (Day 821):

‭You who have made me see many troubles
and calamities will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
Psalm 71:20

The printing factory destroyed yesterday was responsible for almost 40% of the Ukrainian book market. We lost about 50,000 books there. However, once again, the people of Ukraine came together to show their solidarity. Bookstores made special displays of books from that publisher. People would see the sign and come in to spontaneously buy half a dozen books. We will not give up.

Our school held a Spelling Bee today. It was interrupted by an air raid, but it didn’t prevent the kids from doing their best. Yes, walking down into the basement was a hassle, but it couldn’t ruin our day. We will not give up.

A Ukrainian mountain climber, Tonia Samoilova, climbed the two highest mountains in the world, Everest and Lhotse, in 24 hours! She became the first Ukrainian woman to conquer the Everest summit three times. On both peaks, she waved a Ukrainian flag with the words, “Still fighting for freedom.” She also brought a picture of a fallen hero who had dreamed of climbing Everest. She did it for him. We will not give up.
