6/14/2024 — Update from Belgorod Dnestrovsky

From: Lyuda Betina ( Day 841)

News from Ukraine.
Today is usual day for us. There were alarms at night and sirens sounded during the day, but everything is calm in our city. Drones and missiles usually come from the side of the sea, flying from Crimea. We can see them in the sky. If they are shot down right above us we hear very loud explosions. We can distinguish the sounds of explosions and we can tell if they are shot down in the air or hit somewhere. Many buildings have been destroyed on our coast. The attacks are mainly taking place along the coast, in Odessa and port facilities.

We have problems with electricity again. Regular outages occur in all cities. It’s especially difficult for people who live in apartment buildings, because the consumption of electricity is high there, they are turned off very often. We have learned to plan our days so that all the important things are done while there is electricity. It’s good that it’s summer now and we don’t have to worry about heating.
All these problems, although they complicate our lives, seem insignificant compared to what is happening in the east of our country.

Heavy battles are going on there. We constantly think and pray for Dr. Anya and our brothers Paul, Dima, Denis, Illya and Vadim who are fighting there.

Last week we received very disturbing news from Dr. Anya, her group came under fire. This happened when her assistants went to pick up the wounded near the front line. Anya was not with them that day. There were three people in the ambulance including the driver, they all were wounded. And the hardest of them is Anya’s assistant Alexander. When he was delivered to the hospital the surgeon amputated his left arm right away. Now they say that his right arm should be amputated, too. Anya is very upset about it and though she is a doctor and understands that there is very little chance to save his right arm, she asks to pray for a miracle.

Another urgent prayer request came from George, our counselor. All men in his family are fighting now – his son, his son-in-law and his grandson. The news came that the detachment of his son-in-law was surrounded by the enemy. For several days there was no news from them. Today I talked to George and he said that they had a call from his son-in-law, his detachment broke through the encirclement. But they are fighting all the time without stop. They need our prayers.

Our Refugee Center is being transformed and we are happy to see the changes inside and outside of the building. The family that settled there few months ago are farmers. Before the war they grew cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetables.

Small flower beds in the yard of our center turned into farmland. There are cucumbers growing there that are already starting to produce a harvest. Maybe it gives them at least a little feeling of home. It’s nice to come there and drink tea with them in the yard. This place becomes more comfortable and more welcoming.

The cat who lives there gave birth to kittens, it’s fun to watch them.

Sergey had a meeting with our youth group today. They talked about creation versus evolution, getting ready to answer the questions of their friends who believe in evolution. It’s good that they want to share their faith and beliefs.
