6/20/2024 — ‭O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 847)

‭O you who love the Lord, hate evil!
He preserves the lives of his saints;
he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Psalm 97:10

Even though it’s summer break, life remains pretty busy. There are school-related things I’d like to get done before the new school year starts. There are some summer projects, both old and new. There are the usual summer cleaning activities. I wish we had more weeks of summer as I’m worried I won’t get everything done.
Why am I sharing this? Because time is one of my most valued assets. Tonight, we got a notification around 10:30 pm that Russian strategic bombers took off in Murmansk, which is located in the Arctic Circle, close to Finland’s northern border. The notification said it would take the bombers about 4 hours to reach the launching points, so we should expect missiles between 3 and 4 in the morning. I wasn’t shocked or surprised by this. However, this time, perhaps because I had been trying to find a way to pack more things into the limited weeks of summer, I froze at the realization that someone would take 8 hours of their life (to travel to the launching points and back) to send death on unsuspecting people in the middle of the night. Don’t they have a better use of their time?

While I was writing this, we got an air raid siren warning us of missiles launched by strategic bombers coming from a different location. This night might turn out to be an eventful one. Yet what a stark contrast in what people choose to spend their time on!
