6/27/2014 — War Crimes Continue and ICC responds

From: Maia Mikhaluk (854th day)

When ruzzians started their big invasion of Ukraine on Feb 24, 2022 they thought they would take over Ukraine so fast that the world would not have time to react other than after the fact express concerns about the injustice. But for over 2 years Ukrainians continue fighting and ruzzians continue to show the true ugly face of the aggression and cruelty that seem to have no boundaries.

Gradually international institutions are beginning to consider mechanisms for justice against war criminals who remain unreachable for now. But announcing them as war criminals is an important step in the process.

In March 2023 International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for putin and for Maria Lvova-Belova, ruzzian Ombudsman for Children. They are accused of mass kidnapping of Ukrainian children. In March this year ICC issued arrest warrants for Commanders of ruzzian fleet (Victor Sokolov) and long-range aviation (Sergei Kabylash) for massive missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Yesterday the International Criminal Court ( ICC) issued arrest warrants for the former Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Serhii Shoigu and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov. It is noted that Shoigu and Gerasimov are accused of attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, which were carried out from October 10, 2022 to March 9, 2023.

The statement says that there are sufficient grounds to believe that the suspects intentionally caused great suffering or serious bodily injury or damage to mental or physical health, and are therefore criminally responsible for crimes against humanity and other inhuman acts as defined in Article 7 of the Rome Statute.

Today the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted the resolution Legal and human rights aspects of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which refers to the creation of a special tribunal for Russia for war crimes. The resolution refers to the need to use all tools to bring Russian war criminals to justice for war crimes.

A special tribunal for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the top of the Kremlin will probably be created by the end of 2024, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said.
