This week brought an insane heat wave to Ukraine. The average temperatures in Kyiv are 34-37°C (90-100 F), but we all know it gets way hotter than the forecast. We try not to use air conditioning to save the much-needed electricity for other needs, but we have the option of cool drinks, cool showers, or going to cooler places outside the city.
In all this heat, I keep thinking about our soldiers. They need to wear hot and heavy protection gear no matter the weather. They need to stay in their positions, trying to be invisible to the enemy, and often, it means walking for miles and miles, so they can bring only a limited supply of water. They collect dew and drink from puddles just to stay hydrated.

Whenever I feel like this heat is too much to bear, I breeze a prayer for our defenders. Would you join me?
