From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 878)
Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord,
who walks in his ways!
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.
Psalm 128:1-2
Today’s picture grabbed my attention. If you look closely, the letters make up words. The white ones mean “faith,” but if you add the black ones, the word becomes “despair.” The man’s figure in the picture tries to prevent it from happening. It sometimes feels like turning despair into faith again could be Sisyphus’ punishment in Ukraine. You do your best, muster all your optimism, and recall the previous examples of God’s faithfulness, only to have all your efforts crushed by the overwhelming weight of the new wave of despair.
That’s how I often feel, checking the news at the end of the day, especially lately after being offline for a while. However, I know that looking for faith is not futile. That’s what’s kept us alive and sane, and that’s what I’ll keep focusing on.
Right now, part of Ukraine is under an air raid warning. Russian drones come from several directions. There was a report of a missile-launching submarine on duty in the Black Sea. Let us keep faith.
