From: Ira Kapitonova (Day 879)
Let them be like the grass on the housetops,
which withers before it grows up,
with which the reaper does not fill his hand
nor the binder of sheaves his arms,
nor do those who pass by say,
“The blessing of the Lord be upon you!
We bless you in the name of the Lord!”
Psalm 129:6-8
The heat wave has finally passed, and the temperature is more comfortable. I never thought +30°C (86 F) could be considered “cooler,” but it does feel nice after a week of +38°C (100 F) or more.
This summer does feel more exhausting than the previous two. In 2022, we were resolved and inspired by successful counteroffensives. In 2023, we were rejuvenated after a challenging winter. In 2024, we are weary from all the trials – the political uncertainties in the world that might affect Ukraine, the dreariness of possible winter blackouts when even summer power outages seem to be seeping in all of our energy, and the extreme heat that destroys crops feels like the straw that might break a camel’s back. Lack of rain and high temperatures result in rather meager fruits of all farming efforts. I guess it’s one more reason to look at the Lord and not the circumstances around us.
