7/24/2024 β€” The Motherland Sculpture Faces East

From: Meanwhile in Ukraine πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ The Motherland sculpture is located in Kyiv, on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

The 102-meter-high monument was unveiled in 1981 and is one of the city’s most famous symbols. It represents the power and resilience of the Ukrainian people. The statue depicts a woman with a sword raised in her right hand and a shield in her left, facing east. Her gaze is directed towards the Dnipro River and extends far beyond the city limits, symbolizing the protection and unity of the country.

However, if we look a little more globally, the statue also faces our eastern neighbor, Russia, and the raised sword and shield also symbolizes the willingness to fight for our existence and independence. Perhaps back in 1981, in the days of the USSR when the Cold War with the West was taking place, the creators of this sculpture already suspected something and that is why they turned it to face Moscow?
