7/25/2024 — Installation dedicated to Ukrainian athletes who died in the war with Russia

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 882)

His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.
Psalm 132:18

In a couple of days, the world’s attention will be on the Olympics. Ukrainian athletes will compete as well, but it will be a challenge. How can you focus on your performance knowing that your hometown is being targeted with missiles? How can you focus on your performance when you remember that your teammates are no longer with you because they were killed by the Russian aggression? Yet we appreciate the opportunity to remind the world once again of the high price Ukraine is paying.

In London, an installation dedicated to Ukrainian athletes who died in the war with Russia was set up on Parliament Square. A large blue-and-yellow number “487” symbolizes the number of athletes who died during the Russian invasion as of the beginning of July 2024. The equipment used by deceased athletes in sports disciplines is laid out around the numbers. The exhibit was set up with the support of the government of Great Britain, the National Olympic Committee, and the Sports Committee of Ukraine.

Right now, several drone groups circle the territory of Ukraine. During the previous attack, some of them fell on the territory of Romania. We keep praying.
