7/28/2024 — Klitschko honors hundreds of murdered Ukrainian athletes as Paris Olympics begin

“The 487 Ukrainian athletes who were tortured, raped, and murdered, during the Russian invasion war” are missing from the “beautiful and successful” opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, former world heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko wrote on X on July 26.

“Today I want to honor their sacrifices and pay my respects,” he said, reminding the world of the horrific Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The spectacular opening ceremony took place in Paris on the night of July 27, with an armada of boats carrying athletes from around the world along the Seine River. It became the largest open-air show in the world, with more than 300,000 people watching from the riverbanks and bridges.
