8/2/2024 — looking at the US/Russia prisoner exchange

From: Pavlo Gintov — My dear US friends, I hope you’ve heard about the prisoner exchange that took place today. It is a very revealing story about American and Russian values.

So today the US and Russia had a major prisoner swap. The US administration released several professional killers and spies who lived under fake identities.
In exchange, Russia released 16 innocent people. For example, the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. Or an 18-year-old Russian high schooler Kevin Lick who was imprisoned for four years for taking a photo of a military object. Or a painter Alexandra Skochilenko, a young woman who was jailed for seven years for substituting several price tags in a grocery store with anti-war messages (see the translated messages on the photo).

Out of 16 prisoners released by Russia, 13 are Russian nationals. The US returned convicted criminals to Russia in order to free several innocent Russians.

Just think about it for a moment. It’s like from an old good Hollywood movie. The US still stands on the right side of the history, fighting injustice and protecting freedom around the world.

I just wish the US would also protect innocent people in Ukraine by delivering enough weapons and allowing to hit Russian airfields and missile systems.
