From: New Voice of Ukraine 🇺🇦 Ukrainian athlete Oleh Verniaiev finished in eighth place in the men’s all-round gymnastics final in the 2024 Olympics.
The 2016 Rio de Janeiro silver medalist in Men’s all-round maintained strong prospects for a medal in Paris.
Verniaiev was in second place up to halfway, but a series of mistakes prevented the Ukrainian gymnast from reaching the top-positions.
“I am gradually regaining my physical form,” Verniaiev commented on his result.
“I completed all three competitive days without any falls.”
“So, I am satisfied with my performance.”
When asked by international journalists about his preparation for the Olympic Games amidst the ongoing war, Verniaiev shared the duration of night air raid alerts in Kyiv and messages from friends on the front lines.
