8/12/2024 — “Let the godly exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their beds.”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 900 – missed day 899)

Let the godly exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
Psalm 149:5

Reaching these milestones in day numbers is always hard. I remember the anguish I felt when I realized we would get into three digits. Now, in 100 days, we’ll measure this full-scale war in thousands of days… How much longer?

The UN published its report, and they called July 2024 the deadliest month for civilians since October 2022, and there has been a trend of increasing civilian casualties since March 2024. One of the reasons for that is Russia has fewer high-precision missiles, so they use other rockets and don’t bother where they hit. For example, last night, they used a North Korean missile. It hit a private house in Kyiv suburbs, killing a 35-year-old man and his 4-year-old son. Was that a military target? Were they aiming for one? Or were they keen on terrorizing civilians? The answer seems clear.

Today, they shelled Kramatorsk. Forty-two private houses, 19 multi-story buildings, 5 utility companies, 7 private enterprises, and an infrastructure facility were damaged.

Tonight, they also started a fire on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Dark smoke over the NPP is meant to make it look like a nuclear accident caused by Ukraine’s attack. Currently, the radiation indicators are standard, and it seems like it was just a provocation. However, as long as Russian terrorists retain control over the nuclear plant, the situation is not and cannot be normal.
