8/14/2024 — Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry: Ukraine not interested in taking Kursk Oblast

Ukraine’s goal in Kursk Oblast is not to seize territory but to safeguard its citizens, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi said during an Aug. 13 briefing, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

From: New Voice of Ukraine 🇺🇦 The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in Kursk Oblast aims to prevent Russia from deploying additional troops to Donetsk Oblast and to disrupt its military logistics. Since the beginning of summer, over 2,000 strikes have been launched from Kursk Oblast into Sumy Oblast, according to Tykhyi.

“Unfortunately, Ukraine currently lacks the long-range strike capabilities needed to defend against this terror,” he said. “We still don’t have the solutions we’re advocating for, which makes it necessary to liberate these border areas from Russian forces using the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”

Ukraine is achieving its objectives in Kursk Oblast and will continue to do so to ensure the country’s security, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated. “The Ukrainian Armed Forces operate as a civilized European military, fully adhering to the laws and customs of warfare and international humanitarian law,” Tykhyi added, emphasizing that “the targets of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are strictly military.”

The operation’s purpose is to protect Ukrainian lives and territory from Russian attacks. “The sooner Russia agrees to restore a just peace, particularly through the Peace Formula, the sooner Ukrainian Defense Forces’ operations on Russian territory will cease,” the Foreign Ministry said.…
