8/15/2024 — Strategic reasons why Ukraine attacked Kursk.

From: Roman Sheremeta—First, Ukraine showed how vulnerable russia is. Geographically, russia is the largest country in the world, but apparently with a mediocre army to defend it. The attack on Kursk has exposed just how vulnerable russia truly is.

Second, russia had to pull their troops out of Ukraine to defend Kursk. This type of rotation is very costly to russia, since they were obviously not ready for it.

Third, it is a smart military strategic maneuver to get into a position of greater advantage. Ukraine has significantly shortened the front line by capturing parts of Kursk. Also, they moved from lowland onto a height in front of a river.

Fourth, russians are finally getting the message that their authorities are lying to them. The war is not going “as planned.” And now no amount of propaganda will be able to convince even heavily brainwashed russians otherwise.

Finally, capturing parts of russia is a prequel to real negotiations – russia gets out of Ukraine and Ukraine gives back captured russian territories. Ukraine has taken control of more territory in a week than russia has in a year.
