The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:9-10
Perspective changes everything.
Another heat wave came over Ukraine. It also brought seasonal allergies and the return of rolling blackouts. So whenever I am tempted to dwell in self-pity, I think about how our defenders might feel as they experience the same (or worse) conditions on the frontline. Helps me adjust the focus on my life lens.
Over the summer break, I had the luxury of not worrying about air raids. We stayed in the village or other relatively safe locations where even the sounds of sirens don’t always reach you. Now, as our school prepares to go back in session, I am suddenly extremely aware of sirens. Tonight, for example, one air raid lasted 8 minutes. I thought it might be the amount of time it takes my students to get to the basement and settle there.
The Lord allows us to have the right perspective on life. Let us rely on Him wherever we are.
