8/22/2024 — Orthodox Church of Ukraine leader invites UOC MP members to leave Moscow’s control

Metropolitan Epiphanius, head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with Metropolitan Onufriy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP) and encouraged followers of the UOC MP to join the OCU.

During a national telethon, Metropolitan Epiphanius spoke about Ukraine’s new law, which bans religious organizations tied to Russia, including the UOC MP.

“The law gives religious groups still under Moscow’s influence the chance to break free. We urge all Orthodox Christians in Ukraine who haven’t yet done so to end this Russian control,” said Metropolitan Epiphanius.

He emphasized that the Orthodox Church of Ukraine remains open to dialogue, including with Metropolitan Onufriy, the leader of the UOC MP.

“We are ready for dialogue without preconditions, as I stated in my message to Metropolitan Onufriy and his followers. Ukraine is a democratic state that values freedom of conscience. But our freedom must not be exploited by aggressors,” Epiphanius added….
