At least seven explosions were reported in the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast on Aug. 23. Ukrainian Defense Forces may have targeted Russian air defense systems, Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, said
There were reportedly hits in the city. It is likely that air defense systems were hit in the triangle formed by Mariupol (Livoberezhnyi/Kalmiuskyi districts) — Nikolske — Manhush.
“The Russians will try to spread claims about their air defense,” Andriushchenko wrote on telegram.
“They are lying. The air defense did not work. Multiple sources on the ground confirm the strikes.”
Andriushchenko previously reported a fire in the area of a Russian military base in Mariupol on Aug. 4.
