8/24/2024 — Norway licenses localized ammunition production in Ukraine

Norway has approved the transfer of its defense technology to Ukraine, involving the manufacture of 155mm artillery shells, the Norwegian government announced on Aug. 23.

“Ukraine has a significant need for artillery ammunition to counter Russian aggression,” the message quoted Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre.

“Our government has taken several steps to increase the production of artillery shells in Norway. At the same time, we recognize the importance of enhancing Ukraine’s ability to produce modern ammunition within the country.”

According to the government, production of 155mm artillery shells will be established in Ukraine, based on technology developed by the Norwegian weapons company Nammo.

Nammo has already signed an agreement with the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency, ensuring that Ukrainian forces will receive the ammunition more quickly.
