A new package of U.S. sanctions targets approximately 400 Russian nationals and organizations over their role in facilitating the war against Ukraine, U.S. Treasury Department announced on Aug. 23.

The expanded restrictions apply to entities both in Russia and abroad, including those domiciled in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. These entities provide products and services that enable Russia to support its military efforts and circumvent existing sanctions.

The measures are aimed at various transnational networks supplying ammunition and military goods to Russia. They also target those organizing shipments of electronics and equipment to Russia.

“Russia has turned its economy into a tool in service of the Kremlin’s military industrial complex,” the statement quotes Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.

“Treasury’s actions today continue to implement the commitments made by President Biden and his G7 counterparts to disrupt Russia’s military-industrial base supply chains and payment channels.”

The sanctions also affect the Russian metallurgy sector and the family of the new Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov.
