8/27/2024 — Russia spent over $1.2 billion on this attack with the sole purpose of terrorizing civilians…

Today’s picture is an illustration by Nikita Titov. Last week, I was making a poster for my classroom and needed a graphic picture of an airplane in the sky. I chose one, took a second look at it, and then changed it to a different one. The first one looked too similar to a missile (like in the picture below), and I didn’t want any of the kids to think that. I know the problem was not in the picture. It just highlighted how traumatized we are.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 915)

Have they no knowledge,
all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the Lord?
There they are in great terror,
for God is with the generation of the righteous.
Psalm 14:4-5

It’s been a long and exhausting night and an equally exhausting day.

Russia launched what seems to be the most massive aerial attack yet. The air raid started before 6 a.m. and lasted almost eight hours! There were at least 127 missiles and 109 drones launched at 15 regions of Ukraine. There were several explosions in Kyiv. They estimated that over 50,000 people took shelter in the underground metro stations.

Praise God, our family and everyone we know is fine, but this type of morning left us all a bit shaken. It took me two hours (instead of 20 minutes) to get to work today, which messed up many plans, but that’s still a minor discomfort compared to what our enemies intended.

Russia spent over $1.2 billion on this attack with the sole purpose of terrorizing civilians. They did damage our power system, but we had no illusions about the coming winter. We know our power engineers will do the impossible to get everything to work again, but every household is coming up with backup plans. They’ve also been targeting hotels close to the frontline, apparently to discourage journalists and volunteers from going there, but it’s once again a terrorist strategy.

It’s past midnight here. We’re in our apartment hallway again. Our son is sleeping on a rollaway mattress, and we’re trying to make ourselves comfortable on beanbags. It’s our first day of school tomorrow, and everyone will need some extra grace.
