8/28/2024 — Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 916)

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
Psalm 16:1

It was the second night in a row with multiple drones and missiles coming at Ukraine. We heard several rounds of explosions, and I got only about 2 hours of sleep.

However, the dawn brought new hope. The air raid was over just in time for us to get to school and get ready for our First Day of School celebration. It was a blessed time of fellowship, meeting our “old” and new students, and just taking time together to thank God and our defenders for being able to have this day. Tomorrow is our actual first day of school. It may be filled with trips to the basement, unexpected tantrums, or cries of desperation. However, I also know that our kids will be surrounded by those who love them and love God, so they will feel safe even amid this present madness. What a privilege it is to work with this new generation of Ukrainians!

Our school starts the year a bit earlier than government schools (they’re going back on Monday), but I’ve grown to like these few extra days that allow us to get to know each other and build relationships before diving into the studies.

Please pray for the children of Ukraine, both our students and those who are still savoring the last days of the summer break. May God shield them from the enemy and raise them for His glory.

P.S. If you or your church would like to support our small Christian school or a specific teacher here, send me a message, and I will let you know how you can do it.
