Ukraine’s Defense Forces used F-16 fighter jets to intercept missiles launched by the Russian military during a massive attack on Aug. 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced at a press conference.
“During this large-scale missile attack, we managed to shoot down some missiles using F-16s,” said the head of state.
βWe are very grateful to our Western partners for providing these jets. Of course, we don’t have many of them, and we still need to train more pilots. We have proposed to the United States that they consider allowing more jets. It’s ultimately their decision, but they should see this positively because it concerns our territories.β
The Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of 11 Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers and six Tu-22 bombers on the morning of Aug. 26, while Russian troops also attacked with drones.
Explosions were reported in Kyiv, causing power outages and prompting air defense responses. Water supply was cut off in four districts of the capital.
