Ukraine is working to establish subterranean manufacturing facilities for weapons and ammunition, reducing its dependence on foreign military aid, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sept. 6.
“We will start producing weapons underground so that Ukrainian soldiers can protect themselves, even when supplies from our partners are delayed,” Zelenskyy said at the Ambrosetti Forum in Italy.
“We are gradually shifting this war back into Russia, so [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin will eventually feel the pressure to seek only one thing—peace.”
The president also mentioned that Ukraine is physically unable to strike the Kremlin with Western missiles due to their insufficient range.
During a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at the NATO airbase in Ramstein, Germany, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to scale up joint arms production with partner countries after the war ends.
