The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a raid on the St. Vvedensky Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) in Kyiv, NV sources in law enforcement reported on Sept. 18.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate has faced increasing scrutiny for its perceived ties to Russia, especially in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The searches were carried out amid concerns over the monastery’s alleged ties to pro-Russian propaganda.
The operation was initiated early on Sept. 18, following reports that monks at the monastery were sympathetic to “Holy Mother Russia” and were allegedly involved in disseminating Kremlin propaganda while supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the NV interlocutor added.
The investigation is part of broader efforts by the SBU to counter pro-Russian influence within religious institutions across Ukraine. Photos from the raid, shared by insiders, show security forces on-site conducting the search.
