Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is planning to dismiss, or has already dismissed, around 20 generals and senior officials. Ukrainska Pravda (UP)reported this on Friday, Sep. 20, citing sources within the Ministry of Defense.
According to UP, the primary reasons for these dismissals are “ineffectiveness, a Soviet-era approach, and a lack of results in their areas of responsibility.”
Sources say the list of those set to be dismissed includes five deputy ministers, the state secretary of the Ministry of Defense, as well as the controversial head of the Drone Systems Command, Roman Hladkyi.
On Sep. 20, it was revealed that Defense Minister Umerov had already dismissed two deputies of Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) — Viktor Zaitsev and Ihor Ostapenko.
It was reported that they were removed from their positions about a week ago.
