After two and a half years of war, nearly half of Russians support the idea of withdrawing Russian troops from Ukraine, the highest level since Feb. 24, 2022.

This was reported by The Moscow Times on its Telegram channel.

The research project Chronicles, in collaboration with the Extreme Scan group, conducted a telephone survey from Sept. 10 to 17, involving 800 respondents aged 18 and older. The survey was timed to coincide with the second anniversary of Russia’s partial mobilization.

The results showed that 49% of Russians support withdrawing troops and engaging in peace negotiations with Ukraine, even if the goals of the so-called “special military operation,” announced by Vladimir Putin, are not achieved. This is the highest level of support for a peaceful resolution since the start of the war. In contrast, 33% of respondents opposed this step.

Furthermore, 63% expressed a desire for a peace agreement between Russiaand Ukraine to be reached within the next year based on mutual compromises. When choosing between peace and mobilization, 49% would prefer peace, while only 29% would support a new wave of mobilization. Additionally, 30% of respondents openly stated they were not willing to go to the front.

Researchers noted that since February 2023, the number of people supporting troop withdrawal and a ceasefire without achieving military objectives has increased by 9%, up from 40% in February.
