From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 943)
Vindicate me, O God,
and defend my cause against an ungodly people,
from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me!
Psalm 43:1
“Shelling of Zaporizhzhia. No, it’s Kharkiv this time. It was Sumy yesterday and Kharkiv this morning. Or was it Zaporizhzhia both yesterday and today?”
My thoughts looked something like this tonight when I checked the news. Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia are terrorized daily, and every time, there is more and more destruction. Creeping destruction, “scorched earth,” life being squeezed out of these cities… When these reports of bombing and shelling blend into one, I am afraid it might be perceived as my devaluation of the pain of others while, in fact, it’s my brain refusing to process such wickedness. It’s like all the aching parts of Ukraine morph into one insufferable pain.
Vindicate us, o God!
