From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 962)
On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Psalm 62:7-8
October 12 is the Military Chaplain Day in Ukraine.
This is a relatively new position in the Ukrainian army as it was officially established only in 2021, even though it has been a ministry since the beginning of the Russian aggression in 2014. As of now, more than 738 military chaplains in the Armed Forces of Ukraine perform clerical duties, and over 300 priests and theologians from 13 different religious organizations have received an official military rank. Does it sound like religious persecutions are a problem in Ukraine?
I don’t know if there’s a correct way to say it, but military chaplains have one of the hardest and most responsible jobs in the world. They live through all the dangers and hardships together with our soldiers yet offer spiritual support and turn their eyes to eternity. They stand in the breach for those who stand in the breach for Ukraine.
Let’s pray for the military chaplains today. May the Lord be their strength.
