In Russia, authorities charged Vasyl Malyuk, head of Ukraine’s Security Service, in absentia for the July 17, 2023, attack on the Crimean Bridge, according to the Russian state news agency TASS on Oct. 13.
The Kremlin has accused Vasyl Malyuk, head of Ukraine’s Security Service, of “organizing a terrorist attack.”
In May, Russia charged Malyuk for allegedly orchestrating the Crimean Bridge explosion, but the case referred to a detonation in 2022, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which described the investigation as “manipulative and legally void.”
On March 25, Malyuk stated that Ukraine has the capability to completely destroy the Crimean Bridge but emphasized that “there is a time for everything.”
The illegally constructed bridge, used by Russia to transfer armored vehicles and troops to southern Ukraine, has been blown up twice; its spans collapsed on Oct. 8, 2022, due to a powerful explosion.
Following that incident, the Kremlin accused Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, of organizing the sabotage, a claim that HUR officials dismissed as “delusional.”
