10/15/2024 — The war is something we did not ask for, yet it has highlighted God’s mercy and faithfulness in so many situations!

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 964)

Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
Psalm 64:1

Last night, as I was going to bed, I decided to double-check the news because I didn’t see any reports on kamikaze drones circling around. I was surprised to not see any alerts and went to bed slightly baffled. This morning, I read that it was the first night without a drone attack in the past 48 days. We’re counting our blessings.

This morning, I was talking with my students about trusting God even when we don’t see the big picture and don’t understand why something is happening. I asked them if they had any examples of God’s faithfulness even when things didn’t make sense. Their responses brought me to tears and showed how mature these 3rd and 4th-graders are:
“I didn’t understand why my dad needed to join the military, but God worked out a solution.”
“I didn’t understand why we needed to leave home when the full-scale invasion began, but my parents explained to me it wasn’t safe, and kind people gave us a ride to the border.”
“My dad told me that I had to leave the country with my mom, and I did not understand it, but the people in that foreign country welcomed us into their home and cared for us, and they became our friends, but I’m glad we came back home.”
Would you believe these responses come from the kids 8-10 years old?

The war is something we did not ask for, yet it has highlighted God’s mercy and faithfulness in so many situations! To Him be the glory!

Then all mankind fears;
they tell what God has brought about
and ponder what he has done.
Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in him!
Let all the upright in heart exult!
Psalm 64:9-10
