10/18/2024 — May God be gracious to us and bless usand make his face to shine upon us.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 967 – missed days 965 and 966)

May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us.
Psalm 67:1

Two nights in a row, we had air raids for most of the night because of the threat of drone attack. So, two nights in a row, I fell asleep on a beanbag in our apartment corridor before I could finish writing my daily update.

On Wednesday morning, our Air Forces reported that that night, Russia launched 136 drones. Our air defense shot down 68 drones, 64 went missing because of successful electronic countermeasure, 2 returned to Russia, and only 2 hit targets in Ukraine. It does make us feel relieved that it was only 2 of 136 drones, but it still means destruction.

In the past few days, there were more statements from our intelligence and other officials about Russia accumulating missiles to strike our nuclear power plants. I don’t need to explain what a great danger that is for the whole world, not just Ukraine.

Russia strengthens its cooperation with North Korea, and there is a discussion as to what their next step may be. At the same time, it was reported about an ongoing search after 18 North Korean soldiers that escaped in Russia 7km from the border of Ukraine. These men were sent to the slaughter by two bloodthirsty dictators, and I hope these missing soldiers are not found or can escape into Ukrainian captivity as I don’t want to even think what their punishment for deserting their unit may be.

In the whirlwind of these reports and events, we can only hold on to God’s hand not to drown in the despair.

  1. Psalm 13
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

    But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
