From: Maia Mikhaluk in Kyiv (968th day)
After 968 days I often feel that I am running out of words. Our realities include almost daily drone/missile attacks – I don’t write about each of those strikes because it would be so reparative! Today 130+ drones were attacking Ukraine. On Sat, it was also 130+. With extensively damaged infrastructure, we will have a tough winter. Having struggled with lengthy blackouts in the summer, it doesn’t take much imagination to picture winter challenges. Ruzzians continue to push on the front lines in the East of Ukraine. Their progress is slow but they continue destroying everything when they occupy a territory. The concerns and challenges we are dealing with (air raids, blackouts, occupation of our land) are not a part of any normal life, but that’s what our life consists of for a while now.

It’s discouraging to read about lies, disinformation, embellishments, and twisted truths about Ukraine that are being told in the States right now in the heat of the election campaign. Some of it is a mirror of ruzzian propaganda. Friends, if you find yourself agreeing with politicians that are saying that Zelensky and Biden shouldn’t have started this war against ruzzia, please, remember that the war was started by putin, by ruzzia and it started in 2014 when Zelenesky and Biden were not Presidents.

In 2014, Ukraine was forced by our Western allies to agree to allow putin to annex Crimea, which encouraged only putin to also invade in the East of Ukraine. The military action never stopped in the East since the middle of 2014. When putin gathered enough strength, he came full force in Feb 2022, trying to occupy the whole of Ukraine. Putin was not provoked for that invasion. But instead, he was inspired for that invasion by the lack of pushback in the earlier part of the war that started in 2014.
